Hill Top is the 17th century stone house where Beatrix Potter wrote many of her wonderful children's stories. The house has been untouched, maintained exactly as when she lived in it, including the original furniture and china she once used.

The Strickland family has lived at Sizergh Castle for over 750 years, and is still used as their home to this day. It is situated in large, beautifully landscaped gardens and based on an impressive 14th Century pele tower which was essentially built for defensive purposes and features some exceptional Elizabethan carved wooden chimney-pieces.

A lovely woodland garden, covering about eight acres which was created Cubby Acland, once the regional agent for the National Trust until he retired in 1973. The garden features some wonderful collections of rhododendrons, azaleas, ericaceous trees and shrubs which include magnolias, camelias and embothriums.

The Steam Boat Gondola on Coniston Water is the oldest steam yacht in the North of England. It was built in 1859 by the Furness Railway Company for use as an attraction for visitors and tourists who were brought by train into Coniston for the experience. It was retired in 1936 and then used as a house-boat. It was abandoned during the 1960's then restored to her former glory in the mid 1970's by a group of National Trust enthusiasts.

A fine example of Lake District vernacular architecture and an exceptional survival. Mainly 17th Century and still containing many historical items such as books, wood carvings, fascinating domestic implements, furniture and papers.

The house where Wordsworth was born in 1770. Several rooms are furnished in contemporary style and contain some of the poet's personal effects.
